Classrooms & Schools
The below are things some school groups are doing to support educators, connect families, and understand the edtech situation at their particular schools.
We acknowledge that these require time and resources from families, and while they are an attempt to spread the load a bit, they are not equitable solutions.

Our teachers and classrooms need our support. Digital materials are an easier and cheaper resource than notebooks, poster board, worksheets, and physical reading materials.
See if you can support classrooms and teachers through your PTA/PTO. Start by coordinating with teachers to see what they need to shift away from screens. They may provide a supply list, help printing reading materials, or help sourcing books.
Advocating for District-Wide Change

Our school board directors are elected by us to be our voice at the table making decisions. They know the data on educational technology and the strides being made in other districts. They need to hear from their constituents that this is a top priority in Seattle. Please take a moment to send a message to your representative on the board.

Our school board meets monthly, and there are 25 spots for public testimony at each meeting. Each speaker gets 2 minutes to share their experiences, concerns, and ideas, in-person or by phone.

WA State Advocacy
To advocate for state-level change through Distraction-Free Schools WA: read their Model Legislation and sign their letter to our state legislators.
